Is It the Best Time to Book Flights? A Guide to Summer Travel 2021

There is a lot of excitement around summer travel, and people are planning for it now. The travel booking app Hopper has seen a 100% increase in the past two weeks for folks looking to buy airline tickets for what many are calling a “post-vaccination vacation”. But is it really the best time to book flights?

The demand for air travel has been significantly reduced, so fares have been super inexpensive. Now that consumers are looking at purchasing flights, travelers have been wondering if booking their vacation now is worth the risk.

Should I Book My Flight Now?

The answer is it depends.  As more people return to traveling by air, the fares will most certainly increase.  Currently, there are some bargains available and it might be the best time to book flights that might rise in price later.

Right now, Hopper suggests customers take advantage of low prices before they increase. Domestic airfare prices are expected to rise in mid to late March, increasing at an average of 6 percent monthly.

Pay Attention to Cancellation Policies!

Before you make your purchase, read the fine print to ensure you understand the terms. There are great deals at this time so if your air carrier is offering more lax rules it can be a great time to go for it.

There is no one specific rule regarding flight changes, cancellations, and refunds in place for all airlines.  In fact, each individual airline creates its own policies. Make certain you investigate the procedures with fees associated with flight changes or canceling altogether before you buy.

While most airlines have become more accommodating regarding these rules, it is important for you to be clear before you commit.
