The Travel Mom: ‘The Single Most Important Thing To Understand About Traveling’ During COVID

Thanksgiving is historically the kickoff to a very busy holiday travel season.  With our current world climate as it is, the forecast for this year is showing us people will either stick close to home or be taking road trips. If you plan to get away, here are a few things that you need to know.

Road Trips

Even if you have taken a road trip countless times before, manage your expectations about the experience.  Many businesses are not open during this time, so plan by bringing snacks, drinks, and a sanitation kit with you.  This kit needs to include disposable gloves in case you stop to pump gas, disinfectant wipes to use on surfaces you may encounter, hand sanitizer, and multiple masks.

Hotels

If staying at a hotel or resort, make certain they are observing reduced occupancy levels so you can socially distance while on property.  Ask about housekeeping services during this time as many places are not offering it so that there is limited exposure in your room.  Many properties are limited in their dining options, so investigate what is open ahead of time.

The definition of clean can vary from business to business

Ecolab, one company responsible for cleanliness has created a program for hotels and restaurants, so the standards are clear and consistent.  They work with products approved by the EPA, protocol approved by the CDC and World Health Organization and offer training of their employees in public health and food safety.  To learn more, visit www.sciencecertified.com

The most important thing to understand about traveling

Protocols are in place to keep everyone healthy.  If you do not adhere to what is in place, it can not be effective.  Ultimately, the responsibility is up to each individual, so please respect the structure.
